The 80s Revival At scotts

by Olivia Mannix

The 1980s were defined by some pretty bold trends. The colours, prints, and silhouettes – they were absolutely spectacular. The casuals movement began in the 80s and showed no sign of slowing down into the 90s and beyond. Today, casualwear and leisurewear are a big part of the modern wardrobe, and the brands that were first introduced to us back then, have earnt a firm place in our hearts.

Show off your individual style with a fresh retro revival provided by scotts. Sport is one of our biggest subcultures and we want to make sure your look is classic, cool and most importantly, casual. Check out some of our biggest vintage brands.

Fila

International sportswear giant Fila was born in Italy, back in 1911. Throughout the 20th century, Fila has gained global attention for its apparel, that today is the perfect cross-section of sport and street. The brand’s following grew massively in the 1980 and 1990s as they combined slouchy, oversized street-led designs with the figure-hugging fits for a casual leisurewear look. Today, the brand stock a selection of sweatshirts, sports tops, jackets and more that are guaranteed to bring an extra dimension to your everyday rotation.

Sergio Tacchini

A slightly more modern brand comes in the form of Sergio Tachinni – another Italian triumph which was created in 1966. Here we have a heritage athletic brand which represents authenticity, expert craftsmanship and style. Created by the famous tennis player himself, Sergio Tacchini, this brand was a true inspiration within sport and the casuals culture. This brand has been a part of gritty subcultures throughout some of the most important eras of the 20th century. Their classic Italian style and creativity, along with their appreciation for innovation and quality calls for those who love to wear casual clothing, but with elegance and style.

adidas Originals

Vintage revival goes hand in hand with our next brand. It is no secret that adidas Originals trainers are the most popular in casuals footwear. The terrace movement saw silhouettes like the Gazelle, Jeans, Samoa and more, rocket to fame almost overnight. The brand grew in popularity during the 1980s, becoming the number one footwear choice for many. Today, terrace culture is still thriving and our comprehensive collection of 3-stripe silhouettes flying off the shelves each week.

Lois Jeans

Next up, we have another stellar brand that was born on the dancefloor back in 1962. Another label that made its way from Europe is Lois Jeans -one of the first denim brands to conquer the world. Lois Jeans was immediately picked up by the 1980s terrace crowd and their apparel played a huge part in the rise of the football casuals. With British football clubs travelling abroad, Lois Jeans was circulated around the globe and was immediately respected. Add a funky edge to your wardrobe with unmissable denim picks and stand-out corduroy slacks.

Ellesse

Flying the flag for Italy, yet again, is Italian sportswear brand Ellesse. Created in 1959 by Italian tailor, Leonardo Servadio, the brand was immediately recognised for breaking the boundaries between fashion and sport. One of the most prominent trends in 1980 were full tracksuits, and boy, did Ellesse cater for this! The brand was big, being sported by legends across the music and sports industries, danced around in fitness videos and strutted along the most famous catwalks. It is no surprise that the casuals jumped on this incredible sportswear brand.
