Indie-Rock Band, Kashmere Talk To scotts

We were lucky enough to chat with stockport band, Kashmere, following the release of their latest single “Gravity“. After hearing the likes of big hitters “Codeine” and “Anaesthesia” last year, we knew this was a track to look forward to, so we didn’t waste any time in getting in touch with the lads. The latest single was released last month and it’s got a cracking reaction so far – we’re not surprised. Lead singer Joey’s laid back vocals mixed with the harmonious guitar riffs, fierce percussion and steady bass creates the perfect chilled indie sound.

Can you introduce yourselves and what you all do

Joey, I’m our frontman

Charlie, I play lead guitar

Freddie, I play bass

Andy, I play drums and backing vocal

Tell us something that most people don’t know about you…

We once starred in an advert for Subway. It was embarrassing and soul destroying, but paid well. Link to said advert wont be provided!

We’ve seen you’re headlining Y-Not Festival this summer. What are you most looking forward to about the weekend?

We’re really looking forward to just playing really, it’s a pretty local festival for us and one that Joey used to take his mum to, so it’s cool to finally be playing at Y-Not.

Have you got any more festivals lined up for the summer? Will you be going to any just for fun if not performing?

I think we have some more festivals to announce as the year goes on, I’m not sure if we’ll be attending any festivals though, possibly Parklife! I think Joey is going to Opener Fest in Poland again.

What is your favourite song to perform?

I think it was mainly always Codeine for us, but with our new release “Gravity”, that has already become our new favourite live!

You supported Glass Caves in Manchester a couple of weeks ago, how was the night for you? What was your biggest highlight?

The show was amazing, the highlight would have to be the crowd! They were mostly a new crowd for us and we certainly made a lot of new fans from it, it’s always unreal to see them enjoying it as much as you are.

What’s your favourite part of being Kashmere?

Mainly playing live, I think it’s different for each member as we do enjoy being in the studio, but I think live is where it’s at for us really.

In your opinion, what has been the highlight of the bands career?

I think our China tour last year will be a big highlight for a while for us. We could never have imagined that when we first formed, so to turn up there 5,000 miles away and be welcomed at shows by fans, was amazing.

Who are your biggest influencers? Any particular band/artist that really influenced your choices?

We’re all massively influenced by different people/eras/bands etc, we have a mutual liking of a lot of music though. Joey’s massively about the sound and the performance so he’s inspired by a lot of big sounding stadium shows. Freddie is a huge fan of the Smiths and Duran Duran and that shows quite a lot in his bass. Charlie is more Paul Weller and INXS, whereas Andy is similar to Joey, but with a lot of Indie inspiration from bands like The Cribs.

What’s next for Kashmere? What can your fans get excited for?

Our new single “Gravity”. We’ve been really excited with this release, we like to move on with our singles keeping a firm link between each other, yet never releasing the same single twice. Gravity is our proudest effort and we’ll be looking forward to performing that at shows this year. We’ve also got our EP coming out later this year, UK tours and hopefully another trip to China.

What’s the dream?

The dream for us is to be doing this every day, full time musician, everything else is a bonus.

What advice would you give to someone looking to break into the music industry?

Work harder than every other band, don’t rely on anyone to do the work for you.
Put the band before anything else, if the band isn’t the priority then you’ve no chance.

Check them out.
