Winter means something special to football fans. If you’re anything like us, the next couple of months are heaven with wall to wall games both at the weekends and midweek. Carabao cup, UEFA Cup, Championship, Champions League you name it, it’s happening between November and January. A lot of games means a lot of pitch walkouts which in turn means a lot of great songs ringing out over PA systems across the country. To get you in the mood here’s our run down of the best pre-match tunes around the country.

  1. West Ham United I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles: Although their football is sometimes forgettable, it’s hard to forget the words to the Hammers hopelessly dreamy anthem ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’. There’s something quite charming about fifty thousand East Enders talking singing about bubbles isn’t there?

  1. Chesterfield, Is This The Way To Amarillo: Let’s be honest, Chesterfield isn’t the most well known of places and they’re not exactly a footballing titan. However, their decision to play Tony Christie’s classic ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo” has landed them straight on this list. The sing along classic is an iconic number at the Proact Stadium. You know the words, go on.

  1. Chelsea, The Liquidator: Chelsea aren’t particularly known for too many iconic chants but ‘The Liquidator’ has become the undisputed anthem of Stamford Bridge and what’s not to love? The rock steady ska classic rings beautifully around the West London ground before every game. It’s a track that is quite possibly one of the finest reggae instrumentals of it’s time, let alone a great pre-match number.

2.  Sheffield United, The Chip Butty Song: Bramall Lane seems to be a ground on the up these days under the careful guidance of local hero Chris Wilder much to the delight of one half of Sheffield. Their rise to the top half of the Championship has been sound tracked the whole way by the infamous ‘Chip Butty Song’ which uses the tune of John Denver’s “Annie’s Song” to describe all that is pure and wonderful about the city of Sheffield. Check it out, it’s a belter.

  1. Liverpool, You’ll Never Walk Alone: Whether you like it or not, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ rising out of the Kop has become one of footballs most iconic sounds. Gerry and The Pacemakers sentimental hit has long been Liverpool anthem and has grown to mean something far bigger than many could ever have imagined. Let it give you goosebumps.
