The Return of The adidas Originals München

by Johanna Roelich

The München was first introduced in 1979 as part of the infamous three-stripes city series.

Cities have been widely celebrated when it comes to classic three-stripes collectors and admirers. From Malmo to Milano and of course München, the City Series explores some of the top European locations, their colours and their football teams. Drawing inspiration from the cities they were based on, the original city series from the three-stripes brand has become some of the most celebrated trainer releases in the history of the brand. A firm favourite for the early casuals and dressers of the era, the three-stripes stamped with city destinations became a popular sight across the country from terraces to training rooms. First introduced in 1976, the adidas München took its name from the Bavarian capital, home to the famous Bayern Munich football team and of course the annual Oktoberfest.

The München was once a much-loved addition to the Adidas family, but production was stopped in 1984-85 for unknown reasons. Ever since the München has had enthusiasts searching high and low for the original version.

adidas Originals admirers and collectors were pleased to learn the adidas München made its return in 2016. This version boasts all the original features, including the premium quality suede upper and leather details adorning the side panels and heel area, and the classic gum sole. It seems that the brand have kept all of the small but time honoured details, including the serrated trim around the lace area to match the Adidas stripes to the side panel.
